Tested: Cisco Catalyst Center 3.1.3
One of the perks of being a close Cisco partner: we sometimes get early access. Over the past weeks we’ve been testing Catalyst Center 3.1.3 in our lab, and here’s what stood out:
- Fresh look & feel: The interface now feels aligned with Cisco SD-WAN and FMC. Navigation is more intuitive, and the GUI speed is noticeably faster even when running on a lighter OVA footprint.
- Energy management. The new dashboard gives a much clearer view of energy consumption, cost, and carbon footprint. It’s no longer just a niche but a practical tool to support sustainability reporting of your IT environment.
- Performance where it counts. Even when we deliberately ran it with fewer resources than a physical appliance, the platform stayed quick and responsive. Nice!
- Smarter troubleshooting. Assurance now pulls in Cisco ISE authentication failure details right inside Client 360, meaning less switching between tools when solving issues.
- Cisco SD-Access updates. Catalyst Center 3.1.3 also introduces new Layer 2 enhancements in SD-Access fabrics, adding more flexibility in how L2 networks are handled.
At this point, 3.1.3 is positioned for fresh installs only. The official upgrade path for existing deployments isn’t defined yet. Once Cisco provides more clarity, we’ll be testing the approach and sharing our experiences from the lab. Stay tuned.
